Shade plants

Many gardeners and landscapers find themselves wanting when it comes to growing vegetables. While there is no vegetable that can grow in full shade conditions, there are several that can grow with only receiving about three to six hours of sun each day rather than the normal eight to ten hours required by vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and squash. It is great news for those of us with areas that are receive lots of shade versus sunlight. The following vegetables will grow just fine with three to six hours of sun or constant dappled shade each day.
Dappled shade is when there is a combination of sun and shade, occurring when there are trees around. Greens including the cress, arugula and leaf lettuce do wonderfully in these conditions and will almost make a healthy meal for the family. Broccoli and cauliflower do well in the shade and can be ate in a salad or just enjoy raw. Other vegetables that will grow and produce in this kind of environment include beets, peas, radishes, beans and Brussel sprouts. All of these taste great and will be something to great to add to any dish or have as a snack! One can also grow collards, spinach, kale and mustard greens in these types of areas. See how many options you have? Just because you might not have the perfect full sun area, does not mean you cannot enjoy the full benefits of having a great and productive garden.
It will also be much easier that growing in full sunlight areas because you will not have to water as often and since most of the vegetables love somewhat cooler temperatures they will produce more and last longer. Especially the greens and leafy vegetables you add to the area. These vegetables will be able to be harvested from the spring months of the year all the way through fall. Having a shady area does not mean that you will be deprived of fresh vegetables, you can enjoy the bounties just as much as anyone else!
